Seedlings: broccoli, lettuces (3) and spinach seeds sprouted on 6/18 (1 1/2 wks ago) and vary in length from 1 to 3 inches above soil. Sprouted in potting soil in a clear baking dish. Soil kept moist and dish kept on living room coffee table- warm, ambient daylight. I've gotta plant these soon but I need more compost.

Outside containers are watered with drip lines on a timer every MWF morning. The soil has compacted quite a bit since initial plantings (date unknown...I will have to investigate!) The result is that my 8" containers have max 6" of soil. Not great.

Tomato plants (Early Girl and Better Boy) began producing ripe fruit about 1 week ago and continue to have a fruit ready at least every 2 days. Early Girl fruit are from 1 to 1 1/2" in diameter and spherical. Better Boy's are more ridged and squat. Boy's fruit are more solid (without juicy seed sections), but even girl's fruits are not quite as hollow as the store bought crap.

My two good lettuces bolted a couple weeks ago due to heat waves, but I don't know which variety they were due to the fact that I planted them "artistically" instead of methodically. Come to think of it, I don't know which lettuces were numbers 1, 2, and 3 from the mix packet I sprouted on the 18th. I should take a picture of the sprouts so I know what they look like if I want to try a certain one again. I guess a camera might come in handy. I never ended up harvesting any leaves becaues they were still relatively small when they bolted.

This broccoli has never quite made it past the baby stage. I don't know whether to blame seasonal conditions, which are obviously not right, or my little green nemeses, the hungry little caterpillars. They really love the leaves. Chomp, chomp. I have not tried any pest repellant methods other than going out in the early morning to do search and destroy. The broccoli I planted last August did considerably better in comparison, apart from the fact that it only made one tiny "broccolo" which then flowered. Someone said they think I overwatered it....it did grow quite tall, with giant leaves. Are you supposed to underwater broccoli? At that time the drips were on every morning.

The spinach never made it big either (before it bolted); it was always tiny and shriveled. Something was out there eating everything, and I don't know whether it was *only* the green guys or something else as well.

The strawberry plant made one and one half strawberries before the heat. I haven't been in close enough lately to see if it is flowering or just sending out more leaves. The stems which might have had flowers are shriveled and brown. They might have been eaten. I've read stuff about cutworm but I don't know.

The squash has flowered and just produced one little squash, but before it fully developed, the flowering end started to rot. None of the other flowers are fruiting, even though I forcibly pollinated two of them. They just dry up and drop off. This squash plant is a pain in the ass...it has prickles EVERYWHERE. All over every leaf and stem.

The basil plant I bought on the 18th is repotted in a terra cotta pot. The pot sits on the front porch behind a pillar so that it never gets direct sun, but is in a very sunny and warm place. The leaves are doing much better than the one I tried to keep inside, though some of them have a bit of whitish speckling. A couple of smaller leaves from the bottom have yellowed and I think they dropped off, but I didn't take a good look.

I don't know whether the gnats which appear to be endemic to the potting soil I bought are good or bad. I'm not crazy about them flying around the living room, but that's not really hurting anything, is it? Are those little yellow liquid-filled balls from the potting soil some kind of gnat nest? Or fertilizer, or water absorption mechanism?

The heat wave we had, well, EXTREME heat wave with temps above 100, lasted for about a week and a half. I don't remember what it was like before that, as I generally live indoors during the day. For the past few days it has been in the 80s with cooling overnight. I suppose this info is availble online on Weather.com or something. I'll have to figure out how to get past weather data.

OK, enough! I will try to post again at least by next weekend. To do this week: buy compost and fill up the boxes, and plant the seedlings. I should probably tear out the old bolted spinach and lettuces too.

Ahem.

This...I thought this was a joke at first. I even registered with IMDB so I could check out the comments section.

It's a barrel full of rofl.

Sequels:

Snakes on a Plane 2: Planes on a Snake
Year 2060. The US Army now uses giant snakes as army bases. The biggest snake-base, Sssrah!, is being attacked by giant bees. It's the 5 snake's best pilots job to go out and defend the snake from the bees in their supersonic snake venom powered jet.

Snakes on a Plane 3: Plakes on a Snane
A non-sensical charming romp through the coma induced dreams of a 12 year old retarded boy. It could have a shocking twist towards the end revealing that the boy became retarded after watching Snakes on a Plane and it's sequels. And he's in a coma because he got hit by a truck... full of snakes...

Snakes on a Plane 4: Snakes on a Plain
Like the award-winning Kevin Bacon film, "Tremors." But more snakes.

Snakes on a Plane 5: Snakes Plain
People all over the world begin ordering the Snake Sandwich *WITHOUT ONIONS!* (Queue the dissonate cello) Sparks fly with William Peterson and David Caruso starring as a team of forensic investigators trying to smell out the cause of this baffling mystery.

Snakes on a Plane 6: Snakes with Planes
Evil Pentagon scientists develop brain wave operated fighter planes, which fall into the hands of super-intelligent laboratory snakes, (whose genes have been spliced.) Revenge is on their reptillian brains for what happened in "Snakes on a Plane 5: Snakes Plain" For the first time in history snakes can
work the throttle, control stick, rudder pedals and missile fire control systems simultaneously. (BTW wasn't there a...Jessica Alba movie like this or something?)

Etc. Due credit to the OPs.

So this weekend mom and I went test-driving and price shopping for cars. After extensive internet price shopping, we went to Toyota of Orange yesterday, and then North County Toyota (on Euclid and the 91). We were talking to the saleguy's "manager" at North County Toyota and at one point he said "I'm not very good with numbers." Yeah. And then after asking him for one, the biggest lie I've ever heard: "I don't have a calculator."

Are you kidding me?

He gave us some flim-flam about how taking their higher price with the lower interest rate would save me money and blah blah blah. He even had some "computer printouts" with numbers all over the place which "automatically" calculated payments to demonstrate the difference. We wrote the numbers down and went home, and after looking at the numbers and recalculating it turns out he was lying by about $1.000. Lovely.

So we went back to Toyota of Orange with a mind to negotiate at least down to the CarsDirect price, which we did, except for the Anti-Theft...which I'm not sure was worth it or not, but less than $10 difference monthly. BFD. It makes beepies and flashies.

So, meet my new car...Midnight!

La lala!
So last week sometime I wrote an entry but I forgot to upload it and Semagic didn't save it when I exited. Oh well.

Hi! So my Lily Munster costume sewing project got almost complete, complete enough to wear. Just ran out of ribbon so the collar wasn't all nice and clean, but whatever. I put on my fake nails with nail glue on Thursday night and actually had all of them stay on until I lost my left thumb sometime last night. I was a little not-sober so I don't know when that happened. Still have them on now so it's going to take me an hour to type this entry.

Apologies to Dragon for not saying yes or no regarding party last weekend, I hope all ya'll had fun! I didn't see any entries on it. Post people, and get me some hot picture action! As for me, I dressed up for work on Friday and was very successful. Considering that my competition consisted of four bedsheet ghosts, some pajama triplets, and a girl in white with wings and a halo, the costume contest win was somewhat of a hollow victory. But I got a $25 Target giftcard! I love our big employee activities budget, especially now that I'm not the one who organizes the events and therefore disqualified. Yay!

Preliminary costume pic from work --> Clicky! Will hopefully get more later. I'm not too thrilled with ths pic because I got fed up with trying to work in a corset and took it off, and forgot to put it back on. And they had the contest after lunch, the bastards.

Lasterdays Colleen and I went up to Jen's bomb-ass condo in Century City (right next to Beverly Hills...Jen is a lawyer now) and we and Jen's super neat-o roommate went to LACountyMuseumofArt (LACMA) for a partyish thingy with free drinks and the opening of an impressionist exhibit with Monet and Picasso and Degas and Cezanne. Bomb-diggity. There were a couple hotties, including a guy who was in a chicken costume with ammo and a sword and pictures of Dick Cheney taped to him. I had not heard of the term "chicken-hawk" before. I was unjustly not selected by The Man to be a partcipant in their costume contest (which we all agree was a travesty, and thought it was probably because they thought I rented and had no idea of my creative genius) so I ran up and kissed Dick on the cheek right in front of the girls he was talking to (hehehe) and then we ran away to Erin Falkowitz's place for a party she was having. At this point I was descending quickly and Erin's boy tricked me very easily into thinking that there were special brownies out somewhere. I freaked out because I had witnessed Colleen's gastrointestinal pyrotechnics before and did not want her getting the spins too.

So that was pretty much it. I'm tired of hunting-and-pecking so I will finish this entry now. More later!

Hey. I'm alive. I read my friends page every once in a while, but don't really post because, basically, I'm on the computer for 8 hours at work every day. Doesn't really make me want to fire it up when I get home.

So...this year I am finally making my Lily Munster costume. I bought my fabric and the dress is mostly made, except for the gauze-y sleeves, and the bodice fitting, which I'm waiting until the day is upon us. Also have to hand-sew the lace on the neckline down. Oh, and the cape if I want to make it. But it's turning out to be pretty expensive already ;-).

I never did finish my silk-screening project...my Bewitched screen is waiting for me in the garage, but I haven't bought white paint yet, and I have black shirts to print. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Oooh ooh, and mom just got a "Foodsaver" vacuum sealer thing. I loveitIloveitIloveit.

So, not having a response from anyone regarding the Bewitched shirt, I will be making only one for me and my cousin. Then the screen will be cleaned and anyone who wants one will be SOL. Justalechaknow.

The skin on my legs just started to peel. I got the sunburn a week ago! And I have been keeping my legs moisturized and all...and after a half hour of exfoliating in the shower, I get out, and the minute I touch my legs with the towel, skin starts to peel off. Not in a flaky, dry way. I can hear it when it comes off-- it sounds like tape coming off plastic. It's kinda eerie. At least it's just one layer. Where it has already peeled, it will not peel again. But I look like a snake.

Mom invited friends from work over for a pot-lucky barbecue this afternoon. She said one of the couples coming is bringing a baby. I asked how old...she said it's a new baby! Babiesss!!!!
